KNEC PROGRAM

Introduction

 

This course is designed to equip the trainee with knowledge, skills and attitudes required to conduct tour guiding and travel operations in the dynamic tourism industry. It is designed to enable the trainee to plan itineraries, execute and administer a tour effectively. It also enables the trainee to execute travel operations.

General objectives of the course

At the end of the course, the trainee should be able to;

  1. Appreciate tourism as an important social economic activity
  2. Understand the various components of the tourism industry
  3. Perform tour guiding duties to tourist satisfaction
  4. Appreciate the natural history of east Africa (fauna and flora) as a tourist attraction
  5. Understand the function of travel agencies
  6. Appreciate the effective use of a foreign language as a means of tourism promotion
  7. Appreciate the need for effective communication in the tourism industry
  8. Apply entrepreneurship skills to start and run a business in tourism
  9. Appreciate information technology in tourism sustainability

Assessment of the Programme

The programme is continuously assessed with final exams by the Institute, KNEC

Recommended Candidates

High school mean grade C- (Minus) for diploma and D-(Minus) for certificate levels.
Students with lower KCSE grades can also be admitted after successfully passing the Institute‟s aptitude test.

Examining Body

  1. Internally and
  2. Externally examined by KNEC.

Duration

  • 1 ½ YEARS
